There are often various reports in the mass media regarding the spike in food prices. For example, the price of chili that penetrates the price above Rp. 100,000, then farmers who throw away their harvested tomatoes because the prices are very cheap, until the latest is the high price of cooking oil which creates a wave of mass demonstrations. The problem of rising food prices is actually a recurring phenomenon. Call it like when religious holidays are approaching, it is certain that the prices of basic foodstuffs will also skyrocket. Unfortunately, the spike in food prices is still a latent problem in this country. On the one hand, farmers are encouraged to produce high yields, on the other hand, their harvests are absorbed at low prices. Meanwhile, on the consumer side, they must also be willing to spend more money because food is the main need. Indeed, the government has a policy of floor prices and roofing prices to overcome them, but it seems that this has also not worked out as intended.
To examine the problem and find answers to this phenomenon, the Agribusiness Study Program, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Diponegoro University, on Friday, May 13, 2022, attempted to provide an explanation to students regarding threats and strategies to cope with food price spikes. Basically what is behind this spike in food prices and what if this phenomenon repeats itself over and over again, what threats can it pose? Of course, various strategies are needed to find answers to these problems. This guest lecturer activity will present 1 speaker, namely Professor of Economics, IPB who has a focus on studies in this field, namely Prof. Dr. Muhammad Firdaus, S.P., M.Sc. In this way, it is hoped that a complete understanding can be obtained both in theory and practice regarding the issue of the current spike in food prices. Considering that this guest lecturer lecture was attended by Agribusiness students batch 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
